TitleScenario-based perinatal psychosis simulation for final year midwifery students: a qualitative study
AuthorsHall, V.
Abstract

This qualitative study aimed to explore final-year midwifery students' experiences of a scenario-based simulation (SBS) designed to address perinatal psychosis. The simulation involved a one-day learning activity featuring two scenarios depicting women exhibiting psychotic symptoms. Data were collected through focus group discussions and reflective journals, and analysed using thematic analysis. The results revealed that the SBS significantly enhanced students' understanding of perinatal psychosis, improved their clinical skills, and increased their confidence in managing such cases. The study highlights the value of SBS in midwifery education and suggests that incorporating such simulations can better prepare students for real-world clinical challenges.
