Abstract

To Travel Somewhere is an exhibition and publication. The work uses mobile phone technology to reveal how local people perceive their environment, how they describe it and what landmarks they use to navigate in their everyday lives. The work was originally developed during an Arts Council England funded placement at Adobe Systems in San Francisco, USA.
Myers’ work is informed by social encounter and site-specific intervention. She uses locative technologies, web sites and interactive devices to investigate how technology intersects with everyday life. Its approach is interdisciplinary and combines traditional techniques of drawing, filmmaking and photography with emergent technologies.
The publication, funded by The British Council and Middlesex University, was launched at Camden Arts Centre, London, Sept 2008. It contains four commissioned essays, 48 full colour pages.
