Cunning chapters.

Cunning Chapters was a collaborative artists' book co-curated by Meynell and Susan Johanknecht for the Gefn Press and presented as a hand-made edition of sixty, with coptic binding. It thematically linked concerns of ‘well-made-ness', loss and conservation in the production of artwork, using a combination of technologies.
In addition to being co-editor, Meynell contributed one chapter entitled ‘B-attitudes', based on the life of Santa Chiara, a performance artist and patron saint of television, using a combination of facsimile and variable, handmade marks. Another chapter, entitled ‘Clippetyclop Live in Hackney', reproduced night shot footage of the artist's band with a text by Aaron Williamson, and was an account of acoustically-generated information which is passed between the hearing and the non-hearing resulting in a series of interpretations or reinventions of the material.
The other contributors to the book were Drew Milne, Fellow of Trinity College Cambridge, Will Cobbing, Middlesex University, Redell Olsen at the Royal Holloway, Louisa Minkin, Susan Johanknecht and Finlay Taylor at Camberwell School of Arts, Aaron Williamson, Segrid Holmwood, Kelly Wellman and Stephen Bury, Head of European and American Collections at the British Library (who has written a manifesto as introduction).
Cunning Chapters will be exhibited at the British Library from October 25 to December 31st, at the University of the West of England in November 2007 and at the University of Louisiana, Baton Rouge in 2008.
