Abstract

Johns' and Davis' paper “The Properties and Application of Argentium Sterling Silver, was presented at the 31st IPMI Conference. The paper highlighted:
- Chemical and physical properties of Argentium Silver
- The positive global impact of Argentium Silver
- Applications for Argentium Silver outside of the jewellery industry
470 delegates attended the conference with representation from 23 countries. The International Precious Metals Institute (IPMI) is perhaps the most well known association focused on precious metals. IPMI is an international association of producers, refiners, fabricators, scientists, users, financial institutions, merchants, private and public sector groups, and the general precious metals community formed to provide a forum for the exchange of information and technology. IPMI conducts educational meetings and courses and serves as a primary resource for information for the public, industry, and government agencies worldwide.
Johns has a long history of publishing his research findings, demonstrating the unique properties of his silver/germanium alloys. For example, he presented a paper at the 1997 Santa Fe Symposium on Jewellery Manufacturing Technology, where he spoke about ""Fire Stain Resistant Silver Alloys"" This was the first published research of this alloy system. Since then, papers about the work have been presented regularly at a variety of recognised venues, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2007) and the UK Institute of Materials (2001).
The co-author, Sam Davis, is a senior process engineer at Stern Leach USA.
