Profile 14: Andrew Kearney

This book (with the associated website www.andrewkearney.net) represents an artist's single research output. It comprises an essay about my work, an extended interview, together with substantial documentation, description and critique of my work. The essay explores the themes of identity and sexuality around which my work has circled over the past decade, and my exploration of the mechanics of display, the manipulation of atmosphere and ambience, and the establishment of scenarios that are at once controlled and permissive. The interview explores how, in a piece like Time to Time for example, different affects may be accentuated by a gradual and cyclical rise and fall in the luminosity of the bulbs, monitors or other devices. The book is part of the Gandons Editions series profiling artists and architects in Ireland, and also represents a means of exploring and continuing my practice.
