Description

My CD, published through ResCen, records and examines the practical and philosophical imperatives leading to this presentation of single-authored musical works in the solo album, ""Errollyn"" (Avie AV0049). The published CD re-examines the original recording environment and material, from my own now critical perspective, and it returns to the recording studio with sound engineer G. O'Riordan, in order to explore and reconfigure sound: we draw, in particular, on previous achievements and criticism, and the CD also explores the possibilities offered by recent technological advances. The fifteen sound essays in the publication actively enquire into what factors drive the recording process, including investigations into of the staging and recording of studio performances. The accompanying essay 'Making Errollyn', by Andrew Blake (Professor of Cultural Studies, University of Winchester) further contextualises the relatively unacknowledged, closed-door activities of composer, performer, and sound recorder, in the recording studio.
