Abstract

This essay is an output from the early stages of work on a larger-scale research project on cultural studies and anti-consumerism. This includes a monograph with Open University Press entitled Radical Consumption? Shopping for Change in Contemporary Culture, and a special double issue of the journal Cultural Studies, 'Cultural Studies and Anti-Consumerism', co-edited by the author. The completion of both of these projects will fall outside the range of RAE 2008.
