Beheld.

Beheld is an audio-visual interactive installation documenting sites where stowaways fell from aircraft. The work implicates the viewer in a socially charged landscape.
Visitors entered a dark space and encountered ten glass bowls; each containing an image of the sky, and holding recorded sound, mapping sites where stowaways have fallen from aircraft undercarriages while entering Europe and America.
Over two years Graeme Miller visited sites around the world where stowaways had fallen from aircraft. These individuals fell to earth from the wheelbays of jetliners into the landscapes that surround airports in Europe and the US. At each site he recorded a 180º image of the sky and audio. In the installation, Beheld, which opened in London in 2006 ten glass bowls contained the projected image and sound of these locations. The sound, activated by lifting, was transmitted into the glass. The installation was an environment that invited an intimate dialogue through place with a hidden narrative of migration. (ResCen)
