Description

An output of Ghislaine Boddington Artist Research Associateship with ResCen (Middlesex University), this DVD shows the skintouchfeel project in all its interactions from procress through to product and examines the body within digital immersion. It explores the group making and multi-distribution processes for this 4 year body>data>space group creation process. The DVD shows outputs in performances/installations at Glastonbury Festival, Numero Festival and the Tate Britain amongst others.
skintouchfeel is a dynamic interdisciplinary project made through an ongoing group process. The material created for skintouchfeel examines and explores the notion of the body within digital immersion. It researches the concept of virtual touch, of skin on skin. Live and virtual bodies merge into each other, moulding into filmic landscapes, exploring the beauty and diversity of skin and its inherent senses.
Weekly Creative Labs yield performance, sound and video results which are all placed into a Content Pool. Each time body>data>space is commissioned to make a new performance/installation it draws from this pool and creates new materials bespoke to that particular commission. This permits the project outcomes to be multiply distributed in a variety of forms according to need. In 2007 the skintouchfeel project expanded into a larger audience base through showings at the Cybersonica Late at the Tate in April (3,500 attendance) and at the Left Field tent at Glastonbury (50,000 plus attendance) the content and human touch was used to great effect in a tent dedicated to alternative culture and diversity.
The DVD skintouchfeel published by ResCen Publications in early 2008 is an extensive document that collates multiple clips of research, process and final outputs of skintouchfeel from 2003-2007. The DVD uses a non-linear narrative that allows the viewer to move around the material in a fluid way and to explore the making process of the project.
