Abstract

Drawing upon findings from a doctoral study, Jean’s workshop explores the education and career trajectories, socio-economic and life course influences and choices open to students enrolled on ‘Access to Social Work’ further education courses, with specific reference to the experiences of black minority ethnic students. The workshop concludes with recommendations for how these students’ frequently complex, and often highly individualistic trajectories, can be better understood and supported during student selection processes, and upon transition to higher education.
