Abstract

In this article the author examines the public and critical reaction to the 2005 independent horror motion picture "Wolf Creek." At issue are questions regarding censorship of motion pictures depicting controversial or objectionable content. She cites the significant dislike of the film voiced by film critic Roger Ebert and the revulsion expressed by users of Internet cinema web sites to establish a "normal" reaction to the film which would be one of disgust. The author presumes that individuals who liked the motion picture balanced their admiration with guilt and introspection, thus giving rise to notions of self-censorship in the experience of media.
