Abstract

Charles Clarke, Secretary for Education and Skills, published his White Paper The Future of Higher Education on 22 January, 2003.After several decades of chronic underfunding,a market based system of Higher Education is promised.Where might we find a political language able to assert the value of the imagination and open ended learning, against the economic utility of the market? Confronted by its calculative logic, we lack a collective voice which can assert the democratic, transformative nature of convivial thinking and understanding.
