| Title of work | Touching earth and sky |
|---|---|
| Creators | Cowan, J. |
| Description | Invited to exhibit the bronze sculpture “Touching Earth and Sky”, at Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood,(2010-12) Cowan selected an area of beech trees to site the two parts. The work originated from the profile of a beech tree branch moving through a cone and a sphere. The inner and outer profiles of branch growth appearing like baroque cornices. Commissioned originally for Cowleaze Forest (1991), where Cowan selected a small flint pit circled by beech trees for its melancholy, the work echoed the chance discovery that its location was also that of a crashed plane in the Second World War. |
