Abstract | This presentation focuses on the inter-link between the private and the public dimensions of memory, truth and history with reference to the Argentinian Disappeared and their stolen children. Stolen from their parents, these children were secretly given for adoption to families directly or indirectly involved with their parents' disappearance and murder. Illegally registered under a new identity, they were denied access to their own history and memory. Thirty years later, one hundred and seven of these children have recovered their true identities. This paper examines questions about existence, resilience, collective and subjective trauma, history and truth. Taking psychoanalysis as the main frame of reference, this presentation engages with the social, political and judicial spheres of human life. |
