Reshaping leadership and management

The aim of this chapter is to set out the current context for social work, in particular to consider the role of management and leadership in social work services setting out a framework for the rest of the book where ensuing chapters deal more directly with the specific challenges within organisations delivering social work services, can be seen to represent different facets of the same phenomenon. Furthermore, its aim is to provide a framework for how different approaches to management, leadership and practice might be considered, particularly to highlight the fundamental values and assumptions on which activity is based.
