Title | What if I don’t want to submit an e-portfolio? |
Authors | Mimirinis, M. and Torrance, N. |
Abstract | Whilst benefits of e-portfolios have been widely discussed, relatively little is known about the challenges that teaching staff and higher education institutions face when promoting them. The session draws on cases of university teaching with a view to identifying challenges at course level (e.g. students’ resistance to self-reflection, concerns about privacy, teaching staff conceptions of the role of technology) and at institutional level (e.g. conflict with other face-to-face, blended or online pedagogies, links with employability etc). The presentation contextualises these challenges and proposes a number of recommendations, which are aimed at enhancing the student experience as well as improving institutional processes related to the design of curriculum and assessment, quality assurance and the implementation of learning technologies. Session participants are invited to debate the proposed set of recommendations and offer their own institutional perspectives. |
