Abstract

This chapter offers some observations which can make consideration of the social effects of tourism in Swaziland better informed. In particular, it focuses on the ambiguous status of 'tradition', which simultaneously legitimates the existing political structure and provides a crucial theme in selling the tourist industry, thus contributing to the process of 'modernity'.
