Abstract

The legally neutral limited revision focuses on the audit of annual accounts of Swiss public limited companies. The purpose of the audit restrictions is to relieve the administrative and financial burden of small and medium-sized enterprises. The corresponding report is the product of the audit and aims, to confirm the reliability of the financial statements. It aims to increase the report’s overall, safety and, online work tools are suggested as additional and supportive aids can be used as additional audit tools.
The limited auditing body serves as a statutory body, balances interests between the administration and the shareholders. The concise legislative provisions are supplemented by self-regulation. In order to define the boundary between the two types of revision, the legislature has set thresholds. The market share of the limited revision on the overall total revision volume is around 88%, underlining the importance of this control body. The main benefit of limited revision is to create verified reliable financial information. In contrast to the unaudited financial statements, material errors affecting the annual result can be eliminated.
The requirements for the restricted revision are incomplete. The investigations of the thesis are related to six non-auditable items in the financial statements. The thesis aims to provide clients with additional value by providing more information on potential defects and weaknesses of the annual report.
The identified research gap is that the self-determined regulations has not yet been comprehensively examined in order to determine whether they still meet the requirements for a safe revision due to the higher thresholds.
In order to address this question, qualitative and quantitative surveys have been carried out on different stakeholder groups.
It can be shown that clients expect more security, and smaller clients strive for a higher level of security while maintaining a constant fee. Further audits can improve the respective reports regarding the error rate.
The specific research gap is due to the imperfection of the SER. On the one hand, six examination areas are excluded from the examination and, on the other hand, appropriate detailed examinations are required. The two research questions arose due to the clients' need for greater security.
The research questions determine that the level of security in the restricted revision is increased by additional interviews and audit scans. The various analyses show that the recalculated security level can be improve to a level between 68% and 76% respectively.
The final analysis reveals best practices and identifies the remaining outstanding questions. The survey results suggest that the audit security can be improved in case of the restricted revision.
