Biography

Biography

I am Head of the Nursing and Midwifery Department at Middlesex University, which delivers programmes for adult, child and veterinary nurses, midwives and nursing associates. My clinical background is in perioperative nursing, specialising in ophthalmic and neurosurgery, recovery and as a practice educator. I have held a variety of positions in clinical practice, clinical education, clinical commissioning, project management and in academia.

Academic interests include leadership, anaesthetic and perioperative nursing, preceptorship, workforce development, nursing retention and supporting learners in practice.

I have been seconded to work part-time in a number of roles, including lead educator in a large acute NHS Trust, with Health Education England (North Central London) as programme manager of Capital Nurse, and currently with North Central London Integrated Care System (NCL ICS), as Associate Director of the Nursing Workforce Programme.

I am currently Director of the Clinical Academic Nexus (NCL CAN) - a partnership between Middlesex University and clinicians across North Central London ICS. The purpose of NCL CAN is to generate and sustain a professional culture that helps attract and retain a sustainable nursing and midwifery workforce, who are ready and capable to support the overall ICS aims.

Teaching

I currently run a post-registration nursing module in perioperative nursing - NSA3511 Principles of Perioperative Nursing.

I talk regularly with pre-registration students about how to use social media in a professional context.
