Biography
Biography Dr Camille Alexis-Garsee is an Associate Professor of Health Psychology; a Chartered Psychologist; full member of the BPS Division of Health Psychology and the BPS Division of Academics, Researchers and Teachers in
Psychology Prior to joining Middlesex University, London, I worked as a Research Fellow/Trial Coordinator at University College, London on a large randomised controlled trial on tailored interventions for smoking cessation (ESCAPE). Since then, my research priorities are focused on ‘making healthcare better for those who need it’ and as such is focused on three broad areas: (1) the evaluation of theory-based behavioural change public health interventions e.g. smoking cessation, vaping, drug use; (2) the application of new technologies to behaviour change e.g. apps, computer tailored interventions etc and the (3) impact of chronic illnesses like Long COVID on the lives of sufferers and their families. I am currently PI on a number of research projects including a qualitative study on the effects of Long COVID on the lives of children and their families; and a mixed method evaluation of various behaviour change programmes offered at Barnet Council. I am therefore experienced in both qualitative and quantitative methodologies. In addition, I am also involved in two projects that that focus on harm reduction approaches to student substance use. I am co-Director of the Drug and Alcohol Research Centre at Middlesex University, London; an Associate Professor of Health Psychology; a Chartered Psychologist with full membership of the BPS Division of Health Psychology and a Senior Fellow of HEA, Membership number PR161127 My main areas of teaching are focused on behaviour change and chronic illness. I am co-Programme Leader for the MSc Clinical Health Psychology and Wellbeing and co-Module Leader for Applications and Practitioner Skills for Clinical Health Psychologists with (or without) Professional Practice (PSY4160 and PSY4170) and Applying Health Psychology to behaviour change (PSY3011). I am also co-Chair of the Psychology Department Research Ethics Committee.
