Miss Claire Lewis

Biography

Claire Lewis, MA, BA (Hons), PGCE, SFHEA. I am the Director of Graphics and Illustration Programmes and a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design within the School of Design, Middlesex University. With over 15 years of teaching experience at institutions such as London College of Communication and the University of Westminster, I bring a wealth of knowledge to my role. Alongside my academic responsibilities, I actively engage in professional practice, and have a particular interest in typography and letterpress, areas that continue to inspire my teaching and work.

Teaching

Currently serving as Director of Programmes after eight years as Programme Leader, I have developed and refined a student-centred approach that emphasises personalised learning, fosters creative exploration, and encourages critical thinking. My teaching philosophy focuses on nurturing individual potential while equipping students with the practical skills and theoretical understanding necessary to succeed in the ever-evolving field of design.

I have experience teaching across all years of the undergraduate programme, but my current role is focused primarily on enhancing the first-year experience. In this capacity, I work to ensure a smooth transition for students into higher education by fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment.
