Abstract | This study examines the ELG hypothesis in the UAE between 1981-2017 by analyzing the causal effects of non-primary exports on economic growth using an augmented neoclassical production function and time series data. Unit root, cointegration, and causality tests reveal that non-primary exports Granger-cause economic growth in the short run, supporting ELG, but not in the long run. Imports, alongside physical and human capital, contribute to long-run economic growth and export diversification. Future research will disaggregate non-primary exports to identify specific categories that may further accelerate economic growth in the UAE. |
