Abstract

A response to the argument of Bob Brecher criticising the concept of the 'professional.' The present article, whilst accepting many of the points of critique made by Brecher, argues that the core of the concept of professiobnalism lies in the idea of excellence in performance - 'a job well done.' Whilst this might occasion some revision to which occupations are described as professions it captures the underlying value of professionalism.
