Description

The research develops work made by the artist (in collaboration with UK/Singapore artist/performer Lynn Loo MA) into the use of analogue cine-film as material for live performance. As such it challenges the popular perception of film as single channel form for passive consumption and builds on the ‘expanded cinema’ works of artists such as LeGrice and Conrad (Tate Modern conference 2009).
The content of the work develops, in live form, works made for the artists dvd/book production ‘Optical Sound Films 1971-2007’ LUX 2007.
Multi-projector works were tested in live performance situations that enlisted the help of locally based musicians to interact with the artists’ work. One example is the performance of ‘Vowels & Consonants’ (6x16mm projectors c/w optical sound) at Institute of Modern Art Brisbane accompanied by Brisbane based musicians, voice artist PotatoMasta and sound artist Joel Stern.
