Abstract | A speech given by Sam Leak for the 'Crick Music Symposium' at the Francis Crick Institute on the 11th October. In the speech, Leak presented the basis for his research in the music cognition literature. He discussed different types of absolute pitch, genetic and early-learning theories, differences in brain activity, and underlying brain anatomy. He pointed to problems with the current literature and made a case for the possibility that at least one type of absolute pitch ('heightened tonal memory') may be learnable in adulthood. |
