Abstract

In August 2016 a small team of Theatre Arts staff led by Nicola Stammers and Bruce Adams was responsible for opening a temporary theatre venue in Edinburgh as part of the annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The venue, Theatre Arts Exchange, operated as a professional theatre for the duration of the festival (5-28 August) and presented a programme of work by
professional, emerging and in-education companies and artists. It was staffed by a team of 10 BA and MA Theatre Arts students, and performance opportunities were offered to the postgraduate cohort. Over 1,300 members of the public attended a performance during the festival month.

This report provides analysis on 6 key areas: General operations; Artistic activity; Marketing; Pedagogy; External partnerships and Finance. These are contextualised in turn, and key successes and challenges are identified.
