Biography

Biography

Sheldon Carvalho is a Senior Lecturer in HRM & OB at Middlesex University, Dubai. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor at the School of Management, Universidad de los Andes, Colombia, and an Assistant Professor at the Jindal Global Business School, O.P. Jindal Global University, India. He received his Ph.D. from ESSEC Business School, France.

As someone who identifies with the learning and development (L&D) community, his research interests focus on four broad areas of research on employee L&D, namely, (1) what the necessary ingredients are for stimulating development in individuals (e.g., stretch assignments, coaching, e-learning), (2) what individuals proactively can do at work to learn and grow (e.g., proactive feedback seeking, networking), (3) what indicators can we use to track individual growth and development (e.g., change in skills and abilities, identity, self-awareness, sense of self-efficacy), and (4) what personal or contextual factors enhance or impede experienced-based development (e.g., climate for learning). To this end, he has presented papers at international conferences such as the annual meetings of the Academy of Management and Asia Academy of Management respectively.

His teaching interests focus on three areas, namely, (1) Organizational Behavior, (2) Human Resource Management and Development, and (3) Organizational Theory.
