Biography

Biography

Academic Assoc CIPD, FHEA, PG CertHE, BA, MSc (GLAD), MSc (RMBM), PhD

I am a Senior Lecturer in the Management, Leadership and Organisations Department. I  received my PhD from Middlesex University, which focused on how professionals and middle-class people responded to unemployment and impoverishment during economic crises (protest, coping strategies, entrepeneurial, consumer, labour and psychological responses), using Argentina post-2001 as a case study. I research on comparative citizen responses to financial crises in Europe and Latin America, workers' self-management, cooperatives, alternative post-crisis production models, transnational labour movements and how both personal and national debt is resisted. I am Module Leader of HRM2118, 'HRM in Practice' and have recently been Module Leader of undergraduate HRM1003 'Work, Business and the External Environment' and postgraduate HRM4430 'Labour Strategies and the Contemporary Economy'. I also I am Co-Leader of the Alternative Organisations and Transformative Practices research cluster. I am currently involved in a research team with UNITE the Union in the design of their "Crisis Leverage Campaign, BA Betrayal".

You can see this 1 minute video clip that summarises my research.

Further, I am Chair of the Argentina Research Network and Author of The Mobilization and Demobilization of the Middle Class in Revolt: Comparative Insights from Argentina (Routledge, 2019). I am also Co-editor of two books: Argentina since the 2001 Crisis: Recovering Reclaiming the Future (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014) and De la Crisis de 2001 al Kirchnerismo: Cambios y Continuidades (Prometeo, 2016). I have recently published in academic journals such as Economy and Society, Sociology, Labour History and Latin American Research Review. I am also Chair of Debt Justice’s Academic Advisory Network.
