Biography
Biography Academic Assoc CIPD,
FHEA, PG CertHE, BA, MSc (GLAD), MSc (RMBM), PhD I am a Senior
Lecturer in the Strategy, Leadership and Operations (SLO) Department and
Programme Leader for the BA International Business. I am also the
Principal Investigator on a HEIF-funded project entitled "A Training
Framework for Local Authorities in the Identification and Prevention of Modern
Slavery". Currently Module
Leader of HRM2118, 'HRM in Practice,' HRM4415 Applied Dissertation,
MGT4900/4920 and 4950 Business Project, I also teach MGT3191 Cross-Cultural Management and Business Ethics. I have previously
been Co-Leader of the Alternative Organisations and Transformative Practices
research cluster and was involved in a research team with UNITE the Union in
the design of their "Crisis Leverage Campaign, BA Betrayal". I received my PhD from Middlesex University,
which focused on how professionals and middle-class people responded to
unemployment and impoverishment during economic crises (protest, coping
strategies, entrepreneurial, consumer, labour and psychological responses),
using Argentina post-2001 as a case study. I research on comparative citizen responses to
financial crises in Europe and Latin America, workers' self-management,
cooperatives, alternative post-crisis production models, transnational labour
movements, modern slavery and how both personal and national debt is resisted. You can see this 1 minute video clip that summarises
my research and participation in the Horizon 2020-funded project INCASI (International Network for Comparative Analysis of Social
Inequalities) Further, I am Academic Chair of the campaigning
organisation Debt Justice UK and Author of The Mobilization and Demobilization of the
Middle Classin Revolt: Comparative Insights from Argentina (Routledge,
2019). I am also Co-editor of two books: Argentina since the 2001 Crisis:
Recovering Reclaiming the Future (Palgrave Macmillan, 2014) and De la
Crisis de 2001 al Kirchnerismo: Cambios y Continuidades (Prometeo, 2016).
I have recently published in academic journals such as Economy and
Society, Sociology, Labour History and Latin American Research
Review. I regularly feature as a political commentator on British affairs on
television, radio and press in Latin America.
Teaching I currently teach the following modules: I have previously also taught: UG International Development and Anti-Poverty Policies I have been an External Examiner at Bath University for its BSc in International Management and Modern Languages (Spanish)
