Biography

Biography

I'm a Nursing Education Fellow in adult nursing, with a dual role working clinically.  This role allows me to teach within the university and also work closely with the Whittington Hospital Trusts Education Team.  This allows me to visit students in practice, where support can be provided whilst in practice.

My current clinical role is in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, working in a surgical receiving ward and ambulatory clinic, as a band 6.  I have an interest in the Hepaticobiliary system and teach on the Advanced Surgical Study Day alongside an HPB Consultant on Pancreatitis.

I'm also a Nurse Independent and Supplementary Prescriber and currently practicing.

I have my own podcast based on surgical nursing and common surgical presentations.

I regularly share the importance of a work-life balance and how to prepare for a career in a demanding, but rewarding profession.

I'm a long distance runner, having now completed 3 marathons and 26 half marathons.

Teaching

I'm Module Leader for NIP3802 - Consolidating Scientific Principles for Adult Nursing.  Having the qualification as a nurse prescriber and working in the acute sector allow me to bring a close relationship between theory and practice and share my current experience with students.

I'm also part of the development of the Science Hub where we use illustrated videos that are narrated, allowing students to visualise anatomy and physiology.  The plan is to add in diseases to each system discussed.
