Biography
Biography Dr Moses D Lugos is a distinguished academic and
professional in Blood Sciences, currently serving as a Lecturer at Middlesex
University London. With over two decades of research experience in Haematology,
Transfusion Science, and Immunology, Dr Lugos is recognised for his expertise
and contributions to the field. His research focuses on haematological
malignancies and the impact of novel anticancer candidates on cancer cell
lines, establishing him as a valuable leader and mentor in his field. Education and Academic Background Dr Lugos earned his PhD in Haematology and Leukaemia
from the University of Liverpool, UK (2017). His doctoral research investigated
the influence of Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection on follicular lymphoma, using
a comprehensive, five-strand design that analysed T cell subtypes, serum
cytokine profiles, and intratumoral infiltrating cells in phase 3 clinical
trial patients. He also holds an MSc in Biomedical Science (Haematology) from
the University of Ulster, Coleraine (2007), where he focused on T cell subtypes
in TB infection. He began his academic journey in Medical Laboratory Science,
specialising in Haematology and Blood Group Serology, at Ahmadu Bello
University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) Zaria, Nigeria. Professional Experience Dr Lugos commenced his career as a Biomedical
Scientist/Medical Laboratory Scientist at St. Luke's Hospital, Akwa Ibom State,
Nigeria, during his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). Following this, he
served as a Medical Laboratory Scientist at Plateau State Specialist Hospital,
Jos, and later joined ABUTH Zaria as a lecturer. In 2000, he was recruited by
the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a Technical Aid Corps volunteer,
serving as a Haematology and Blood Transfusion expert at the Royal Victoria
Hospital, The Gambia. Dr Lugos's tenure at the British Medical Research
Council (MRC) Laboratories in The Gambia (2002-2007) further honed his research
skills, where he applied advanced research methodologies, including multicolour
flow cytometry, Luminex Assay, and Immunofluorescence. During this period, he
contributed to numerous peer-reviewed publications and taught in the University
of Westminster's Diploma in Biomedical Science program for the African Pathway. In 2009, he joined the University of Jos, Nigeria, as a
Lecturer in Haematology and Blood Transfusion Science, rising to Senior
Lecturer and Reader (Associate Professor) by 2021. He has also held notable
academic leadership roles, such as Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator and University
of Jos Ethics Committee member. Academic and Community Contributions Dr Lugos has supervised numerous undergraduate and postgraduate research
projects in Haematology, Blood Transfusion Science, and Immunology. He has
served as an internal examiner for PhD candidates at the University of Jos and an external
examiner for other institutions, including Bayero University Kano.
Additionally, he has been an MLSCN (Medical Laboratory Science Council of
Nigeria) Examiner for qualifying examinations and contributed as a visiting
lecturer and curriculum reviewer at several Nigerian universities. Publications https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=Bq8XnmYAAAAJ&hl=en&oi=ao
