Abstract

Textile Intersections Doctoral Consortium provided an opportunity for doctoral students to discuss their research in an international forum under the guidance of a panel of convenors and experienced textiles / design researchers.
The format of the doctoral consortium invited scholarly discussion and debate, especially on interdisciplinary approaches to textiles design and practice-based design research projects. Selected applicants have been asked to give short presentations or participatory sessions during the Consortium. The presentations were followed by extensive group discussions and peers’ feedback as well as participatory sessions led by the co- chairs of the Doctoral Consortium. Focus of the discussions has been on design practice as means of knowledge generation, the relationship of research questions and design practice in doctoral research and impact of the research.
Participation in the Doctoral Consortium was independent of the participation in the conference and the exhibition. The doctoral consortium welcomed applicants whose approaches to textiles design research are embracing the interdisciplinary perspective and are currently undertaking doctoral study with a clear direction of research.
