'Solar Ghosts' - Art-Park, Wharepuke Art Center Sculpture Park and Garden,Kerikeri, New Zealand

One of 38 artists who have produced works for a Sculpture Park walk opened in the southern region Summer of New Zealand and will run until September 2016.Each Artist was asked to send in separate proposals for a sculpture piece to line a trail through the park garden.The works installed among the tropical plants of the garden are labeled with the artists various details /aims.The Sculpture project vary from the static pieces constructed by traditional means or were works that interacted with the environment / vegetation - everyone took an invent interuptation to either the use of materials or approach to the individual sculpture.
The piece I presented is called 'Solar Ghosts' using T-Shirts to create masks for chlorophyll prints in the grass surrounding the trail path.The imagery for the masks /cut forms were sourced from cave art seen in SW France, particularly the early abstract forms and Hand Stencils.
"The T-Shirt is a cheap global garment often used to promote mass Market commercial interests or cultural event.In a world of constantly flickering video images ,shadows cast in the grass reflect our nervous times"
