Abstract

Transport is vital to ‘our’ very existence – remaining the lifeline of civilisations. It is unquestionably an enabler of economic, social, and cultural survival. It is therefore vital, that, in today’s modern society, transport is both efficient and ultimately sustainable. And, at the same time, there is also the demand for it to be safe and secure.
This research relates to the right to travel and ultimately traveler’s rights, considering the associated risks when traveling which may compromise our safety, and at times, our security. The conflicts, in terms of security, and imposed restrictions and measures vs. the freedom of movement is also considered. The impact of high-profile events is also revisited. Aviation serves as the primary focal point and acts as a comparator with other transport modes. The research identifies and discusses inconsistencies across the globe in terms of exposure to identified hazards and also travelers’ rights and equalities.
