Abstract | This chapter explores the relationship between two core safeguards that flow from indigenous peoples’ self-determination and participatory rights, namely FPIC and HRIA. It briefly addresses the source and content of those rights to provide the basis for considering the implications FPIC has for the design and implementation of HRIA processes and methodologies. It also seeks to shed light on the challenges and opportunities which FPIC affords to strengthen HRIA. |
