Biography
Biography Emmanouil (Manos) Stafylarakis is a Lecturer in Adult Nursing at Middlesex University London and a registered adult nurse. His clinical background includes perioperative nursing, scrub and circulating practice, theatre leadership and practice education, with experience in Greece and the United Kingdom.
He holds an MSc in Perioperative Medicine from University College London, an MSc in Transcultural Nursing from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education from Middlesex University, and a BSc (Hons) in Nursing from the Technological Educational Institute of Central Greece.
Manos teaches across nursing and nursing associate programmes, bringing clinical experience into the teaching of scientific concepts, clinical reasoning and critical thinking. His educational work includes simulation, digital learning and the professional development of healthcare practitioners.
Alongside his academic role, he is a part-time PhD student at Middlesex University, currently in Stage 2. His doctoral research examines generative artificial intelligence in nursing education, with particular attention to ethical use and measurable learning outcomes.
Teaching My teaching spans undergraduate adult nursing, nursing associate education and postgraduate professional development. During the 2026–27 academic year, I contribute to modules NIP2802, NIP2805, NIP3802, NIP3805 and NIP2901.
I deliver clinical skills teaching and simulation-based learning for first- and second-year BSc nursing students, supporting the application of scientific knowledge, clinical reasoning and critical thinking to practice. I also contribute to student support and practice learning at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital.
My postgraduate work includes MSc student supervision and teaching on the ethical and responsible use of generative artificial intelligence in academic and professional contexts.
I contribute to perioperative continuing professional development and am the module leader for Principles of Perioperative Practice, offered at Level 6 (NSA3555) and Level 7 (NSA4510). My wider academic responsibilities include accreditation activities.

Undertook consultant reviewing for the University of Greenwich in connection with consortium activity.
I serve as CPD Accreditation Tutor for the Royal Free Hospital’s in-house perioperative courses, supporting the academic accreditation of continuing professional development provision for perioperative practitioners.
Project management within the collaboration between Middlesex University and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust on an enhanced induction programme for international theatre nurses. The project uses blended learning and constructive alignment to support nurses’ transition into UK perioperative practice, connecting clinical scenarios, interactive learning activities and evaluation of the learning experience.
Peer review of manuscripts submitted to the Journal of PeriAnesthesia Nursing, contributing to the journal’s scholarly review process.
