Biography
Biography Kate Rogan (nee McMonagle) MSc, FHEA, PGCHE,
BA hons, Dip. is a Senior Lecturer in Dance (0.5 fte) at Middlesex
University. Kate joined Middlesex in 2006, where her teaching has
included: Humphrey-Limon based technique and performance, Teaching Dance Technique,
Dance Science, Fitness, and Pilates. Kate trained at London Studio
Centre and Millennium Dance 2000 and has danced professionally in David
Bintley’s Samson et Dalila at the Royal Opera House (Covent
Garden), trade shows in the UK and Europe, and later specialised in the
technique and work of Doris Humphrey. Kate became a Humphrey based
technique teacher under the mentorship of Dr Lesley Main, further
developed in 2008 and 2009 under respective Humphrey/Weidman/Limon
specialists Gail Corbin, Deborah Carr and Jim May through the Doris
Humphrey Society (Chicago) (supported by the 2009 Lisa Ullmann
scholarship). Kate later further developed her Limon technique teacher
training through the Limon Institute (New York), completing Teaching Contemporary Limon with Alan Danielson and Geraldine Cardiel in 2011, and the Limon Teachers Workshop
with Kurt Douglas and Kristen Foote in 2023. Kate holds a Professional
Diploma in Performance from Millennium Dance 2000, BA Hons Dance
(Science) from Middlesex University, PGCHE from Middlesex University,
MSc Dance Science from the University of Wolverhampton, and is a Fellow
of the Higher Education Academy. Kate is also a qualified Pilates
teacher (Pilates Foundation: The Place), Level 4 Strength and
Conditioning Coach, Exercise to Music instructor, and Lecturer in Physical Development (Pilates) (0.3fte) at London Contemporary Dance School (The Place). Kate is a board
member and Trustee of the Doris Humphrey Foundation UK, member of
the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science (IADMS), and External Examiner for Millennium Performing Arts.
Kate’s research interests are two-fold: Health for Dancers (notably how
applied dance science can enhance dancers' psychological and physical
health, wellbeing, and performance), and Dance for Health (with a
particular interest in how dance can support individuals impacted by
cancer in collaboration with Move Dance Feel). Kate’s research has been
presented at IADMS conferences, and published in Medical Problems for
Performing Artists, Journal of Dance Education, and Kate co-developed
the Dance Fitness Indicator© (DFI) (https://dancefitnessindicator.com/).
