Biography
Biography Quang Nguyen, PhD Qualifications: PhD in Economics, University of HawaiiMSc in Demography, University of California, BerkeleyBSc in Mathematical Economics, National Economics University Research Interests: My work predominantly explores the intricate ways in which consumers and firms interact, particularly in contexts where traditional economic models fall short. Currently, I am investigating how firms strategically manage consumer learning to optimize pricing structures, a relatively understudied area in behavioral industrial organization. Selected Publications: Risk and time preferences: This paper, co-authored with Tomomi Tanaka and Colin Camerer, was published in the American Economic Review. In this study, we bridge experimental data with household surveys to provide nuanced insights into risk and time preferences in Vietnam. Promoting adoption of management practices: Published in the Journal of Operations Management, this paper in collaboration with Kim Trang, In this study, we employs randomized field experiments to shed light on the external factors that influence management practices.
Teaching I am committed to delivering high-quality education in economics and management, with a focus on fostering critical thinking and real-world application. I have extensive teaching experience in the following courses: Behavioral Economics: An interdisciplinary course that delves into the psychological factors affecting economic decisions, aiming to provide students with a holistic understanding of both theoretical and empirical aspects. Online Consumer Behavior: This course explores the rapidly evolving landscape of online consumerism, focusing on how psychological and economic factors influence consumer choices in digital environments. Management Analytics: Designed to equip students with the quantitative skills necessary for data-driven decision-making, this course covers key topics in analytics as applied to managerial contexts.

External activities
This groundbreaking research employs a randomized field experiment to delve into the interplay between managerial preferences, goal-setting practices, and the resulting impact on firm performance. The study partners with multiple firms to randomly assign different goal-setting frameworks and assess the alignment with managerial inclinations toward risk, time preferences, and reward structures. The aim is to identify optimal goal-setting mechanisms that not only resonate with managerial styles but also significantly boost firm performance metrics such as profitability, employee engagement, and operational efficiency. The findings are poised to offer novel contributions to the literature on management science and organizational behavior, providing empirically-backed recommendations for enterprises seeking to harmonize managerial preferences with effective goal-setting strategies.
