Abstract | The management of sustainable tourism in World Heritage sites is crucial for the preservation of these sites for future generations. However, perceptions of tourism vary from city to city, with some seeing it as an asset and others as a threat due to its possible negative impacts. Tourism policies for the World Heritage cities must recognise the distinctive potential and specific implications of tourism development in each destination. Well-managed tourism can foster an appreciation of authenticity, promote local distinctiveness, facilitate cultural exchange and develop sustainable communities. |
