Abstract

This chapter will consider the similarities and differences between the local acceptance challenges facing the oil and gas industry, and renewable alternatives such as onshore wind. The chapter will explore the literature relating to the Social License to Operate in the Oil and Gas field, and identify the key lessons which can be extracted and applied to other sources of energy. Community engagement and transparency, community benefit and local content shall all be considered as opportunities for new energy initiatives to gain legitimacy among local communities.
