Abstract | Notational analysis is utilized in many sports and is viewed as an important process that allows coaches to collect objective information to provide feedback on performance (Franks, 1997: In Science and Football III, edited by T. Reilly, J. Bangsbo and M.D. Hughes, pp. 267 278. London: E & FN Spon). In soccer, goal scoring is a critical aspect in winning games and has subsequently received considerable attention from notation researchers (Abt et al., 2002: In Sciences and Football IV, edited by W. Spinks, T. Reilly and A. Murphy, pp. 106-111. London: Routledge). Although over 40% of goals have been suggested to be scored from set pieces, few studies have examined this aspect of play in any detail. |
