Sighted at Saatchi for Collect 15

Sighted is an installation performed by solo dancer Stine Nilsen (Artistic Co-Director, Candoco). It is an intimate, 20-minute performance where Stine moves within and around a ‘carpet’ of mirror pieces. Her audience gathers and circulates or stands with her. We draw attention to an acute awareness of place and the present moment, sound and silence, movement and stillness. Sighted invites sensitivity to temperature, touch, breath, physical adjustments, shifting focus, and the texture of materials.
Collect’ presents a range of international galleries showing work, supported by talks and events. It attracts an international audience of about 10,000 from 18 countries.
Sighted was commissioned by The Place and the Royal Opera House ‘Deloitte Ignite’ Festival, and funded by Arts Council England and Middlesex University.
Research methods: The live performance of Sighted is central to the further investigation of the visitors' book. The writings, voluntarily given, are immediate and intuitive to the individuals’ experience and interaction. Our involvement is to observe and document the performances.
