Title | When enough is enough: time-restricted sensemaking in underground railway control |
Authors | Attfield, S., Pagnacco, F. and Benedyk, R. |
Abstract | We report a field study of operators in a London Underground control room, analysing cue disambiguation in support of sensemaking. Disambiguation is understood as specifically aiming to map situations to a finite and modest repertoire of responses. However, information 'bottlenecks' threaten this, resulting in 'default' responses under pressure of time. |
