Abstract | Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology which is still in the development era and with the large impact of mobile phones, AR can be the next significant user interface milestone of the coming generation. The purpose of this study was to develop a low-cost platform that can be used in multiple use cases across mainly Smart City and Smart Building areas, whereby control and monitoring of devices could be managed over augmented reality interfaces. Various use cases of AR will be presented using a single methodology for the implementation. The platform proposed, named SmartAR, comes at a time where the human-machine interface is becoming tightly coupled with the Internet of Things and we expect further iterations of the technology to be highly innovative and provide the basis for further investment and development. Though originally developed with Smart Homes in mind we further expanded beyond the home to office and even car applications, all using the same platform. |
