| Abstract | Billingham was invited to speak at 'British Photography in the 1990s Seminar Day', Martin Parr Foundation, Bristol, 11 MAY 2024. This seminar explored British photography from the 1990s. Five guest speakers discussed their creative practice. The other speakers were Vinca Petersen, Stephen Gill, Joy Gregory and Juergen Teller. Richard will talk about his creative practice in the 1990s including the photographic series ‘Ray’s a Laugh’ and ‘Fishtank’, a film made for BBC2. The book ‘Ray’s a Laugh’ was first published in 1996 and became one of the most significant photobooks of the decade; a new edition of this work has now been published by MACK. Richard will discuss and share many images from Ray’s a Laugh as well as touch on why now is a poignant time to republish the book. |
