'Ray & Liz' and 'Ray's a laugh': film screening, photography presentation and discussion

Billingham was invited by Javier Fuentes Feo, director of the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote to present his first feature film Ray & Liz and his first photography project Ray’s a Laugh (1990 – 96) as part of a collaboration between the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote (a film festival organized by the non-profit association Tenique Cultural begun in 2011) and Veintinueve Trece (a photography festival), both based in Lanzarote ((8th - 12th November 2022).

The film was screened whilst the photographic body of work was presented by Billingham as a lecture with audience discussion. The event providing an opportunity for dialogue between the two projects made more than twenty years apart but also provided opportunity for discussion on the relationship between cinema and photography, the ways of approaching reality, conceiving an artwork, memory, lived experience and producing and distributing art different works made in film and photography

Previous invited photographers have been Alberto García-Alix (Spain), Graciela Iturbide (Mexico) and Pieter Hugo (South Africa).
