| Abstract | This introductory chapter identifies the effects that the current COVID-19 pandemic has had on the global tourism industry and remarks that the unplanned downscaling of social and economic activity due to COVID-19 cannot be associated with degrowth. It also highlights the differences between degrowth and overtourism and degrowth and sustainability, and reviews past research on the topic of degrowth in tourism. |
