Abstract

One egg.
One orange.
Six almonds.
Tea measured exactly
to the line inside the cup.

Every morning.

—

The same chair.
The same spoon.
The same careful chewing.

—

Across from him,
another video
about engines, gearboxes, horsepower —

a man with a monotone voice
speaking into the dark.

The chewing matched
the rhythm of the narration.

And somehow
the car
was the only thing alive
in the room.

—

Oh, what a bore he was!

—

Cold hands.
Empty eyes.
The same breakfast
every morning
of his life.
