Abstract

Introduction
Research has identified the need for the urgent training of the workforce in Artificial intelligence (AI) and social robotics. Healthcare providers across Europe and beyond are called to embrace smart technologies and the use of AI and social robotics in order to adapt to the current challenges of an ageing population and workforce shortages.
In order to harness the power that AI has to offer, difficult medical and nursing challenges need to be addressed as well as societal barriers towards the adoption of such technologies in health and social care, as well as the cultural changes to address reluctance and scepticism.

Aim of the IENE10 project
The IENE10 Project aimed to produce a European Transcultural Robotic Nursing (TRN) curriculum model and learning materials which are suitable for health and social care workers and educators internationally and delivered by a MOOC.

The outputs
Learning and teaching tools have been created, organised in user friendly format and were embed the TRN materials to create in the TRN-MOOC course.
The MOOC was delivered to 140 participants, specifically recruited by the partner organizations as well as self-selected across the globe.

The lesson learnt and conclusion
Health and social care education and training has evolved over the years. From virtual and augmented reality to simulation wards, AI is always present and social robots have proved to be effective. Nevertheless, reluctance and scepticism remain among health and social care workers thus we need create approaches to raise awareness and break biases so that AI can be beneficial to enhance patients’ care.
