Abstract

Research developing a model of loss of life in floods, complementing Abt's classic 1989 US Corps of Engineers' flume studies. The research developed the equation LoL = X * Vn.Y, where X = population exposed, V = water velocity and Y = flood depth. Calibrated against 3 major UK floods.
