Abstract

In this paper the authors discuss the interactions of
Information Technology (IT) / Information Systems (IS) and
Human Resource Management (HRM) in software development, virtual organisations spread over several countries. The importance of the organisational context, including influences from the national culture in which the
organisation is situated is emphasised. Qualitative and
quantitative results of an extensive empirical study carried out by the authors are presented and interpreted. The SQM-CODE model which was the main research outcome assesses to what degree there is a fit between the organisational and the national culture. Conclusions are drawn and indications of further work are outlined.
